Editorial Cohorts
Poets Reading the News is a dynamic environment for individuals interested in contributing to a vital platform for poetry about current events. Our editorial cohorts learn the ropes behind poetry and digital publishing while working closely with the editorial leadership to make the machine hum.
Associate Poetry Editor Fellowship
Our Associate Poetry Editor Fellows are integral to reviewing and selecting from our large volume of poetry submissions. Collaborating directly with the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editors, Associate Editors evaluate submissions assigned to them, engage in thoughtful discourse around poetry and current events within the cohort, and select pieces from the archives to highlight for our audience. Associate Editors can expect to hone their ability to read critically, evaluate complex poetry from a range of styles, advocate their positions, challenge their interests and perspectives, and read a lot – a lot – of poetry.
Our 2024 Associate Poetry Editor Cohort applications have now closed.
Managing Editor Fellowship
Our Managing Editor Cohort Fellowship is for editors seeking experience in advanced publishing, production management and editing. Managing editors select and publish a hybrid of poetry and journalism and provide guidance to the associate editor cohort. Editors gain experience in the more complex aspects of poetry editing, including pitching ideas, publishing works, designing poetry open calls, collaborating with the EIC, learning digital news management, and advocating for poetry’s place in the contemporary conversation.
